Little School near the Boma

Greetings from Tanzania! We’re thankful to our Tanzanian partners for going to great lengths to accomplish much during our short three weeks here. These photos are scenes from the one room church where the Maasai school preparatory program is meeting. These students all finished primary schools and have passed the test qualifying them for secondary school. But their English lags woefully behind and English is the language of instruction in all secondary schools here. So, they are swimming in English instruction during this year. In these photos, Tim and I are demonstrating some additional methods of teaching English. Your donations went for textbooks, dictionaries, and other reading materials. We also brought a basketball and soccer ball and materials for students to write and make their own books. This gives them opportunity to write and later read English as they build a student generated library. They treated us with songs in the language of the Maasai. Tim and I set the teacher up with a planning book, a system for keeping track of all books and materials, and a door lock that will keep those precious books safe! We’re pleased with this teacher who is Maasai and from this village and who demonstrated a high level of English proficiency. Bravo!

More to come…
